Auto Grüppe’s Summer Run 2016

Date: 29 August 2016

Location: Southsea seafront, Hampshire

Words & Photos by Henry Phull

Auto Grüppe organised an event back in 2014… the congregation of some incredible cars at Beaconsfield services on the M40, followed by a leisurely drive to the rendezvous point at Southsea seafront in Hampshire, for a chilled evening with friends and cars. To this day, it remains one of the coolest gatherings that I’ve attended in the UK. I’ve been patiently waiting for the guys to plan the next one – This year they finally got their act together and set a date for the second event. The idea was exactly the same as before (why change something that worked so well, right?), another cruise from Beaconsfield down to Southsea. I decided to skip the convoy and meet up with everyone in Southsea along with a few other Southerners, seeing as we live around the area, anyway. When I arrived, there were already plenty of modified cars trying to take over the Avenue where the meet was being held – unfortunately it was a bank holiday Monday after a big music festival held at the same location, so there were a few vans and tractors moving about and clearing up the rubbish from the weekend, but we made the most of it and it didn’t seem to spoil the vibe. To top it off, the weather was glorious.

This was the sort of evening that sticks with you.. even more so than the typical car show, and don’t worry, not your average car park meet. It was definitely refreshing to see a turnout of quality vehicles take over a picturesque Avenue – particularly when you get such a beautiful sunset in the background. I think the photos speak for themselves, so props to Auto Grüppe for hosting yet another successful ‘Summer Run’. So this has got me thinking, we already have ‘Homegrown’ in West London and ‘Dub Club’ in the Midlands… perhaps we need something like this more frequently down on the south coast. What do you guys think? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

RollHard: The Show 2016

Date: 14 August 2016

Location: Cressing Temple Barns, Essex

Words & Photos by Henry Phull

Established back in 2010, RollHard is now one of the most recognised groups in the modified car scene… They choose to focus on the sense of community that comes with the lifestyle of a petrolhead, “All makes, all models, one community” as they state, which I absolutely love. It’s not hard to work out why so many car enthusiasts choose to be a part of RH and of course rock the stickers on their cars. Let’s face it, if you’re into cars, you’ve heard of RollHard. They’re everywhere, and even have a huge following over in Europe. Having previously held a few events (RollHard Duxford back in 2013, The Belgian Chapter in 2014 and 2015, and their Charity event also in 2015), a new idea was brought to life this year after discovering an absolute gem of a location in Essex – the Cressing Temple Barns. Imagine a beautiful, scenic venue in the remote countryside, featuring 13th Century Medieval barns, outbuildings, gardens, and paddocks. Not your usual recipe for a car show, but that’s what made this one just that extra bit special. With plenty of nooks and crannies throughout the venue, cars were dotted all over the place, which made it more fun to explore than say, strolling past rows upon rows of cars like at other shows. Usually, I’m not the biggest fan of car events on grass, but the quirkiness of this venue definitely made up for it. So, sit back and check out the highlights below…

RollHard: The Show was certainly one of the more unique car events on the calendar. With plenty of gorgeous cars to look at, gardens to explore, their own cinema, badminton (yep!), on-site tea rooms with ice cream and refreshments, as well as some very tasty food stalls (which makes a nice change!), it made for the perfect day out. For their first event at this venue, I think they did a fantastic job. Here’s to the next one – thanks for having us!

FittedUK 2016 – Part 2

Date: 31 July 2016

Location: EventCity, Manchester

Words & Photos by Henry Phull

Welcome back to our FittedUK coverage – in this final part I’ll take you through the remaining highlights from the incredible show at EventCity, the new location for 2016. You’ve already seen that the event was full of high quality cars and now it’s about to get even better. It’s time to take a look into the carpeted hall, show a few gems that we missed from the rest of the venue and even more of the cars from the Slam Sanctuary booth. There’s something special about an event of this size. All the excess space glorifies the cars on show, allowing you to fully admire them. When they’re squashed together (like at a lot of smaller shows) you’re much more likely to walk straight past or pay less attention. FittedUK was like an art exhibition for cars… They truly nailed what a static automotive event should be. Anyway, on to the all-important photos…

Apparently next year’s show will have cars hanging from the ceiling! When I first heard that, I thought “really…?” but after seeing what these guys can pull off, I wouldn’t be surprised if they get it done. Not only was this my favourite UK show of the year so far, it was Slam Sanctuary’s best stand yet – thank you to everyone that came and picked something up in our Summer Sale and had a look around the cars on display; Nick Sahota’s E34, Sumil Pancholi’s E39, Sean Crompton’s E36 and Mark Allen’s Mk4 wagon. If you missed out on our sale, fear not, you can still shop online and get 30% OFF until the end of August. I’m super excited to see what the FittedUK team have up their sleeves for 2017 – if you didn’t get the chance to go this year, mark the following date on your calendar: Sunday 30th July 2017. We’ll be there – hopefully you will be too.

Gravity 2016

Date: 17 July 2016

Location: NAEC, Stoneleigh, Warwickshire

Words & Photos by Henry Phull

Launching a new automotive event in the congested UK show circuit is a daunting task. For people that do what we do, a dedicated show is the ultimate dream and accomplishment, which our friends at Slammed UK have managed to achieve this year with their debut show ‘Gravity’. With more and more shows popping up on the calendar, the venue has become the ‘make or break’ factor. Jordan, the main man behind Slammed UK and Gravity, spent a lot of time getting it right, opting for NAEC at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire – just outside of Coventry. An ideal central location, easily accessible for the rest of the country, and with plenty of indoor space – absolutely critical now that the British weather has become as unpredictable as ever. With two halls; a VIP-style room similar to those at Ultimate Dubs, a main hall with barn-like lighting & attributes, plus a large outside area, there was a nice contrast of backdrops which makes for an overall captivating feeling. Slammed UK are known for their variation in the car scene and their show was the perfect example of that. Take a look at our highlights…

So, did Gravity exceed our expectations? I’d say so. It’s difficult to stand out from other shows, but the choice of venue completely made it for us. We don’t always want to see a perfect looking show hall, and Gravity’s main hall was different to most shows – with more of an air-cooled vibe to it, which actually worked really well with the range of cars on display. Of course, being a debut show, there were a few things that could be improved on, but that’s to be expected – I’m sure Jordan and the team now have plenty to think about and are already planning next year’s show. If you missed it, don’t think twice about attending in 2017 – Gravity is definitely one to watch.

Stance Fever 2016

Date: 22 May 2016

Location: Rockingham, Northamptonshire

Words & Photos by Henry Phull

Back in January I had a message from my friend Faz, the co-organiser behind Stance Fever, mentioning that he was putting on a bigger and better show for 2016. The event originally debuted at the Ace Cafe in London, then moved to Essex in 2015, so this year had to be something even bigger. Bigger is definitely the word… This year Stance Fever moved to the famous Rockingham Speedway in Corby, Northamptonshire. With plenty of excitement in the air, we decided to join forces and agree to attend with our pop-up store for this years show. Plus, it was the first outing for our new Audi A6 Avant hauler, even if it did break down on the way home, but I won’t bore you with the details. Take a look at our highlights from the day – the mix of cars was quite something, with a huge variety of marques catered for.

Ultimate Dubs 2015 – Part 1

Words & Photos by Henry Phull

It’s been a long old wait, but this year’s show season has finally begun, kicking off with Ultimate Dubs at the Telford International Centre. This has always been one of the biggest car shows on the calendar, and being the first show of the year means people are attending with new projects and updates that have been worked on throughout the winter. Plus, like us and a lot of people in the show, there’s the option of staying overnight in a hotel, a good chance to catch up with friends in the bar until the early hours. To some people that’s part of the fun of Ultimate Dubs. Turning up the day before also means there’s usually some interesting cars scattered around the venue and the onsite hotel car parks, so it’s always worth a wander around. In Part 1 we’ll primarily be taking you around the outside areas of the show.

Every time we’re at the International Centre we bump into this beautiful 911, which is always worth a quick snap.

Opposite the Porsche, Alex Hurd’s bagged BMW E46 was parked up, check out the white-centred BBS RFs with gold hardware which work nicely against the silver paint and amber corners.

Over the road we caught Max Wilde’s gorgeous M4 and Shakey’s E39 M5 parked up whilst they spent a lot of the weekend in the adjacent hotel bar.

We thought we’d put this up to show that not everything runs smoothly at car shows. Our friend Kiran Mistry had some issues with his Mk1, involving a wheel falling off on route on the motorway at high speed. Luckily he’s OK, unfortunately the same can’t be said for his poor Golf.

It’s always fun to see the show car’s getting a clean outside before they queue up to their indoor spots. Here Aneysha (of FittedUK) giving her stunning ’64 Beetle a wash…

Out of the many Lupo’s in attendance, this was a clear favourite of ours, a bagged GTI sitting perfectly on Rota Zeros, it’s just a shame they’re not the genuine Work Equips, but other than that a great looking car.

We were also feeling James Cousins’ bagged Audi A5, there’s a definite chance that white cars are going to big this year.

Fifteen52 Tarmac’s on Mk4 Golfs are always a match made in heaven. Sean Lamb’s bagged R32 is pulling off this look flawlessly.

These two Jetta’s stood out, what’s not to like about a Mk1.. Jamie Lockyer’s example above, and  Travis Price’s bagged Jetta below.

Abi Clarke has upped her game with the addition of Zender Phase 2 Turbos and fans on her Polo, incredible wheels.

Vossen CVTs look spectacular on most modern cars, shown here on Kiran Attwal’s bagged Audi TT wrapped by S6 Wraps in an eye catching yellow.

We’re fans of static and bagged cars, but Scirocco’s always seem to look their best on air. Check out this silver stunner on black Rotiform INDs, spaced out for some awesome fitment.

Although Ultimate Dubs is primarily a VAG show, there’s always going to be a turnout of other marques like we’ve already seen. Let’s move on to some more BMWs… like David Mcdiarmid’s newly bagged E46. With rare factory white paint, M3 front bumper and amber corners, but more importantly those insanely wide OZ Breytons!

But the winner of perfectly executed fitment goes to our Thom William’s and his bagged E46 saloon on newly lipped BBS RFs. Absolutely killer.

Alex Gray’s EOS was turning heads, not surprising as it’s bagged on 18″ Artec Turbo splits which bring the car together brilliantly. We loved the decals, too.

Moving along to a couple of the Taunton boys, Adam Wyatt has unleashed his Vento with a super bright new colour, now fitted with Air Lift suspension and a set of Rays Nismo wheels, making this something really different!

Facing it, Aggs Gaines’ awesome new Polo 6R GTI, also on Air Lift suspension. The gold OZ Ultraleggera’s compliment this car so well.

We see a lot of cars throughout the year, but Porsche 968’s unfortunately don’t pop up that much. What a nice surprise it was to come across Giles Ramsden’s impeccable example.

The 3 piece Teledials were a nice touch to Tom Michael’s bagged Mini Cooper S which was also rocking a rather impressive boot build.

We don’t see too many bagged Mercedes CLS55’s, so it was cool to come across Lee Patterson’s AMG on Airrex bags. This thing sounded ridiculous, but that’s to be expected with a supercharged V8.

Wagons are a popular choice in this day and age, but how often do you see a Polo estate? Joe Stackman’s static example really looks the part.

Thankfully we did come across some air cooled goodness, including Khol Parker’s ’66 Beetle.

Our mate Jack Ellis made the journey up from down South in his static B3 Passat. That front heckblende still makes the car for us!

Mk5 Golfs, tough cars to crack as they are so popular within the show scene, but Lee Johns’ new look is ticking all the right boxes – a lovely example.

As we get closer to the heart of Ultimate Dubs, we spotted Nick Sahota queuing up to take his place indoors. Here’s a little teaser of one of our favourite BMW’s new look for 2015. Two words, Bugatti Centrelocks.

Or how about an M4 convertible….

That’s it for our outside portion of Ultimate Dubs. We’ve shown you a variation of car’s that stood out – we’ll continue into the halls in Part 2, so check back soon to see what all the trader’s have been working on during those winter months. The quality of cars will continue to improve – we were not disappointed.
